BJP president Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said any war against terror and Taliban would not succeed unless it was jointly fought by the US and other prominent players, including India and Pakistan, under UN supervision.

Expressing concern over increasing terror acts in Pakistan, in the context of the attack on a police training centre near Lahore on Tuesday, he said the incident was proof of terrorist activities going on unchecked in Pakistan for many years.

He said Pakistan was 'fast forwarding' the process of becoming a 'failed' state. "If that happens, it will annihilate the democratic forces in the country and might bring in a regime which will create a bigger problem for the world in general and India in particular."

"In spite of growing sentiments against terrorism in the world and billions of US dollars spent to fight the war on terror, the incumbent government in Pakistan has not been able to dismantle terrorist infrastructure on its territory."

Singh said India should exert diplomatic pressure on Pakistan to curb terrorist activities by taking the international community into confidence.

Singh said it was a matter of 'grave concern' that the sphere of influence of terrorists in Pakistan, earlier perceived to be limited to remote North West Frontier Province and Swat Valley, has now extended to Eastern areas, much closer to the Line of Control.

"It is high time the international community restructures and reworks its strategy of the war on terror," the BJP chief said.

Attacking the UPA government, he said ever since it came to power, the country has come under many terrorist attacks, not only exposing the government's 'inability' to protect its citizens, but also making India a 'soft' target for terrorist and other anti-national forces.
