Pandit Ronu Majumdar, India’s ace flautist has got the rare honour of opening ‘The Year of India’ festival in Russian capital Moscow. Needless to say, he is thrilled beyond words. An excited Majumdar says, “I don’t know how to express my happiness. This is a great honour for me to open a coveted festival like this.”

The Year of India festival is beginning on March 31 in Moscow, at the New Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre, Organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, an autonomous organisation of the Government of India, was established in 1950. The Council promotes cultural exchange with other countries and peoples all over the world.

The last time he went to Moscow was about 21 ago when he performed with his guruji Pt Ravi Shankar. “When I went for the first time, it was too beautiful an experience.

After our performance, we got a standing ovation. It was really overwhelming. I guess Russians are great music lovers. I went to see Lenin’s body too. I am sure Moscow has changed. I am can’t wait to see the transition.”
