Forum against Criminalisation of Politics has requested the Supreme Court to consider the views of people before pronouncing a judgement on SP nominee and actor Sanjay Dutt's plea seeking permission to contest the Lok Sabha polls.

"The forum moved an intervention petition in the Supreme Court with an appeal to also consider the views of city voters before pronouncing judgement on the actor's appeal, slated to come up for hearing tomorrow," FCP's convener Rajiv Hemkeshav
told reporters here.

Rajiv said people have every right to intervene in the case, as it is not only a matter between Dutt and the court.

"His candidature will adversely affect the public life and tradition of Lucknow, which had send prominent personalities, like Vijay Laxmi Pandit, AN Mulla and Atal Bihari Vajpayee to the Parliament," he said.

He added that the intervention in the case filed by Sanjay himself is a more pointed and proper approach, as it will be taken up with the case itself.

Rajiv said "in the intervention petition it has been argued that Sanjay's self confession and thereafter conviction by TADA court are not comparable with Navjot Singh Siddhu's case".

The forum, which had prominent persons like Kuldeep Nayyar as its patron, had earlier launched a signature campaign appealing the Supreme Court not to allow criminals to enter politics.
