Congress on Monday, accused the BJP of desperately trying to convert the Indian Player's League into the 'Indian Political League', saying the saffron party was not concerned about the safety of the voters.

"They (BJP) are desperately trying to convert the IPL into the Indian Political League... They are not concerned about the security of the voters," party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters here.

He said, "BJP loves to distort acronyms... It was called the Bangaru Judev Party and the sceptics also referred to the NDA as the New Destructive Alliance".

Taking a dig at the statement of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi calling the shift of the IPL to some other country as a "national shame", Singhvi said, "he felt no shame, national or local, in 2002 when the Gujarat riots took place... He felt no shame when the apex court, for the first time in its history, rejected the investigations of the state police into the riots and transferred the case out of the state".

The spokesman accused the saffron party of trying to create a situation where India is embarrassed.

"This is being done for political gain..." Singhvi quipped.

The Congress leader said the equation was not between cricket and no cricket but it was between orderly and proper conduct of elections and deferred matches.
