Even as a slowdown-hit-placement season made the going tough for the different centres of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) across the country this year, NIFT-Gandhinagar stood at the top among the centres by placing 80% of its students in the first round of placements.
In comparison, all NIFT centres taken together have managed to place only 40% of their students this year so far. It may be noted that NIFT placements are centralised and the student of any centre can take part in it at any of its 14 centres across the country.
A source in NIFT said, “Out of around 170 students who took part in the placement process at the Gandhinagar centre, around 80% have been placed.” The Delhi centre of NIFT stood second to Gandhinagar as it managed to get jobs for around 45% of its students.
Talking about the reasons for the comparatively high placement at the Gandhinagar centre, an institute source said, “A large chunk of our students, around 30% of the total strength, got pre-placement offers from the companies in which they worked for their graduation projects.”
The average pay package offered this year at Gandhinagar was around Rs3 lakh. Some packages went up to Rs5 lakh.
Though no significant fall in average package was noticed in placement this year, a higher number of local companies participated in it. Companies like Banswara Syntex from Rajasthan and Ritika Embroideries from Surat were among the highest recruiters here this year. Sources also said that the second round of placement is likely to take place by the end of April when the institute hopes to get the rest 20% of its students
placed successfully.
