Aniston's claim contradicts reports that said Mayer had dumped the actress, The Sun said in a report in its online edition.
A source said Aniston decided to end her on-off relationship with Mayer after the latter "went cold" following the Oscars.
The 40-year-old actress told friends she decided to dump the 32-year-old singer after returning from the United Kingdom.
Her friends told the newspaper that the actress felt angry and used by the singer. "They had a great time at the Oscars, but he seemed to go cold right after," a source said. "It's humiliating. To say her feelings are hurt is an understatement."
Reports of their split came soon after Aniston returned from Europe, where she was promoting her new film, Marley & Me.
Aniston and Mayer's relationship has been rocky from the very beginning and it is the second time the couple has split.
They first broke up in August 2008 and Mayer held a press conference outside his gym in New York to announce the split. "I ended a relationship to be alone because I don't want to waste somebody's time if something's not right," he said then.
The duo later reconciled and became one of the most sought after couples at this year's Academy Awards function last month after a surprise appearance by Aniston as a presenter, with Mayer as her date.
Mayer later said he was there to offer "moral support" to his lover.
Aniston has previously been in a sexual relationship with actor Vince Vaughn after her divorce from Hollywood star Brad Pitt, who left her to go and live with actress Angelina Jolie.
