Holi revelry turned fatal for Vishal Mishra, a resident of Akbarpur taluka, Ambedkarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, who lost his life drowning in a lake at Sanskardham School in Maninagar on Wednesday.

Mishra had come down to Ahmedabad on February 27 to deliver a lecture at the personality development programme organised by the Surya Foundation at the school. A source said that the New Delhi-based organisation has been organising the programme at the school for the past one year.

A source in the Sanand police said that on Wednesday, after playing Holi with his friends, Mishra headed for a bath in the lake inside the school premises. However, he lost his balance and started drowning. Mishra cried for help but drowned before anyone could reach to his rescue. Later, the 108 emergency service officials fished out his body, which was then sent to Sola Civil hospital for post-mortem.

Kiran Sevak, CAO, Sanskardham said, “Mishra was here to attend the personality development programme and was a member of Surya Foundation.” Sevak said the incident was unfortunate and shocking but claimed that the school owes no responsibility for the mishap.

Meanwhile, Mishra’s parents reached Ahmedabad on Wednesday and took his body to New Delhi for performing the last rites. RR Limbad, PI Sanand police station, said, “Police have filed a case of accidental death in this connection and investigation is on.”
