Although the team boasted of some big names from international cricket like Gilchrist and Symonds, the Deccan Chargers finished at the bottom last year.
The Deccan Chargers might have finished at the bottom of the table in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League last year, but pace spearhead RP Singh on Thursday said the outfit was determined to rectify their mistakes and put up an improved show this season.
Although the team boasted of some big names from international cricket like Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds and Scot Styris, the Deccan Chargers had a late start to the Twenty20 extravaganza last year and finished at the bottom in the eight-team event.
However, with some new signings, the team seemed determined to prove their mettle this year and RP Singh said he has set a plan for himself.
"We have good expectations for this season. We will rectify the problems of last year and hope to do better this time," the India discard bowler said on Thursday.
"Personally, I have set a plan for myself. I also hope the recent matches I played would help me. But whatever the team management and support staff decides, we will follow that," he added.
He also hoped that the new players roped in by the management would prove useful for the team.
The Chargers had signed up three foreign players -- Ryan Harris, Fidel Edwards and Dwayne Smith -- and five Indians -- Abhinav Kumar, T Suman, SM Shoiab, Jaskarandeep Singh and HS Bansal -– for the new season of the tournament starting April 10.
The left-armer, however, opted to take a safe path when asked about his preference for the captaincy post.
VVS Laxman led the Chargers in the initial stages of the league last season and thereafter Gilchrist took up the responsibility from the stylish Hyderabadi who missed the later part of the event due to injury.
"Who should be the captain is the decision of the management. For us, generally we have a set plan. Gilchrist is one of the best players in the world and playing alongside him is a good experience," RP Singh said.
He also described the present Indian outfit under Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the best team on current form.
"It is the best team on present form, but it could could get better in future. At the moment the players are in great form," the Uttar Pradesh bowler said.
Asked whether security would be an issue during the IPL in the aftermath of the Lahore terror attack, RP Singh said India was safe to play cricket and the crowd behavior here is also good compared to other countries.
