The women entrepreneurs have something to cheer about. They might get industrial estate of their own. International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Career Development is planning to set up dedicated industrial estate for women entrepreneurs in the outskirts of the city.

The MoU to this effect has been signed by ICECD with Gujarat Government during Vibrant Gujarat Global Investor’s Summit 2009. The institute plans to rope in around 50 women entrepreneurs, who would invest around Rs7 crore in this estate.

At present there is no industrial estate in the state where in the women entrepreneurs can work with ease as it lacks basic facilities, said director of International Centre For Entrepreneurship and Career Development, Hinaa Shah.

"We have given training to thousands of women entrepreneurs and our success ration is around 70%. Many of them are also been able to provide jobs to other women also," she said. There are many women entrepreneurs in the state but they do not share a common platform for growth. By setting up such an industrial estate, ICECD wants to provide them an opportunity to grow together, she said.

Talking about the location for the proposed industrial estate dedicated to women entrepreneurs, Hinaa Shah said, "Skilled workers are essential for any business. Taking into consideration this, we plan to set up the estate somewhere in Bopal, Ghuma or Manipur because there are a number of people trained by our institute."

The estate would house readymade garments, food processing and electronics business mainly. Traditionally women entrepreneurs are in embroidery and food processing business. However, now they are also exploring new businesses that are traditionally dominated by men.

Many women entrepreneurs are already in this business and they want to expand their business on a larger scale. "Many women entrepreneurs trained by ICECD are doing well in their business and providing employment to other. Out of them 5-10 have already shown interest in setting up their unit in the estate," Shah said.

According to Shah, Bawla and Sanand are going to emerge as heavy textile and auto hub respectively, this estate in vicinity of such industry will help women entrepreneurs.

A woman entrepreneur Geeta Darbar, who runs her garment and embroidery unit in Bopal, said, "It is really a nice idea to have industrial estate of our own and I am eager to have my unit in such an estate." At present she employs around 10 people.

ICECD will provide necessary help and guidance to the women entrepreneurs to set up the industrial estate. Shah said that the institution will help them in dialogue with the government and financial institutes. "However, we do not have any major role in the running of this institute neither we are going to make an investment. They will form their own association and run the estate," she said.

It has been observed that marketing is one of the major concerns of women entrepreneurs along with balancing personal and professional life. This estate would help them to rope in or float marketing company for promotion of their brand. Moreover, the women workers also need to take care of their children. So, ICECD also plans to set up a primary school for children of women workers in the estate, Shah added.
