Oscar hero Resul returns to roots

Resul Pookutty’s first visit home with the Oscar was a crowd puller. The sound wizard was greeted by a mob at Thiruvananthapuram airport on Friday afternoon.

Six state ministers and representatives from Malayalam movie industry came to welcome him.

Later, Pookutty was accorded a civic reception where poet ONV Kurup felicitated him. “I’m happy I’ve turned sound mixing into an art and attracted laurels to the country,” Pookutty said at the reception organised by the Kerala Chalachitra Akademy.
Culture minister MA Baby and Chalachitra Akademy chairman TK Mohanan presented Pookutty with mementos. The state government will present gold medals to Pookutty and AR Rahman at a date convenient to both.

At Vilakkupara village in Kollam, where Pookutty grew up and studied, he received another grand reception. His siblings, friends and neighbours thronged his house to greet him. Resul is the youngest of eight children
