International players observe silence for terror victims

The India and New Zealand squad on Friday observed a one minute silence ahead of their second one-dayer as a tribute to the victims of the terror attack in Lahore on Tuesday.

The South African and Australian team will also observe a minute's silence at the start of the second Test in Durban on Friday. The gesture will be repeated by England and the West Indies in their fifth Test match in Port of Spain, Trinidad, which also begins on Friday.

The opening matches of the ICC Women's World Cup in Australia over the weekend will also see a minute's silence being observed. Players and officials will wear black armbands, replicating the spontaneous gesture of the players and officials at the first New Zealand–India ODI in Napier on Tuesday, when the attack on Sri Lankan players took place.

The ICC had requested the teams to observe a moment's silence as tribute to those who were killed and injured when terrorists opened fire and hurled grenades at the Sri Lankan cricket team convoy in Lahore.
