Police suspect hand of professional killers in the assassination of Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) contractor Narendrasinh Parmar, who was shot dead at Mithakali on Tuesday.

Police sources said business rivalry could be the reason behind the murder. According to sources, police could interrogate two contractors - Lalji Masani and Premaji Oad - to gather more information.

Four years back, Masani was the main contractor with the GEB but his monopoly ended as soon as Parmar started taking GEB contracts. Sources said Masani was not happy with Parmar's hold in the business as the deceased was clinching all major contracts.

Oad also had some disputes with Parmar over business transactions. He had borrowed a JCB machine from Parmar but Parmar did not give him the machine and provided him with a dumper instead, after some dispute cropped up between them.  Oad had lodged a complaint in Sola police station against Parmar in this connection.

Though, they settled the matter later, Oad suffered financial loss in the deal. Oad had sought help of his friend, Jasu Oad, to force Parmar cough up the money. Jasu had on several occasions threatened Parmar of dire consequences. Parmar has two daughters - Shivani, studying in class XII and Krishna. Sources said when Parmar married Chetna against his family's wish, his brothers and parents snapped ties with him. The last rites of Parmar were performed by Shivani.
