Majority of Americans overwhelmingly support the decisions taken by Barack Obama to revive the economy in his first month in office as the president of the United States, opinion polls have suggested.

As Barack Obama prepares to address the Congress on Tuesday, the Washington Post-ABC News poll revealed that as many as 68 per cent of Americans support Obama for his economic stimulus plan and believe that he is moving ahead in fulfilling the promises he made during the elections.

"Overall, 68 per cent of poll respondents approve of Obama's job performance, a finding that puts him on par with the average for the past eight Presidents at this point in their tenures," The Washington Post has said.

Similarly the latest Gallup Poll gives Obama an approval rating of 65 per cent.

This marks one of the few instances in which a president receives more support for a policy decision from those who identify with the opposing political party than he does from his own, the Gallop Poll said.
