The mother of a girl who has gone missing has released a picture showing her daughter on a drip in hospital at the age of 13 after a vodka bender, to highlight the dangers of binge drinking.

When Sonja Lawton was brought to hospital in an unconscious state, doctors feared she would die, but after eight hours she woke up and was taken home.

But, after a year, Sonja, 14, vanished from her home in Belvedere, South London, five weeks ago after being sucked into a world of drugs and alcohol.

Her mother Lidia, 42, revealed how her daughter ditched school, her family and friends to join an African gang in Hackney, East London.

"Sonja went off the rails after her dad and I split in 2004," the Sun quoted Lidia as saying. "It was quite bitter because he moved in with Sonja's cousin who was 25.

"It was difficult for Sonja, but I never thought she was drinking until I got a call from her friend to say she'd been rushed to hospital.

"Sonja was dead to the world. Doctors flushed her system with water, but she didn't respond. Thank god we got a call later saying she had opened her eyes. But she had no memory of what happened.

"She was last home on January 15. I've not seen her since.

"She won't answer calls. I just want to know my little girl is OK. I've no idea how she gets money.

"I made this shocking photo of her public so parents and children can know the dangers of drinking."
