Early on Tuesday morning, three criminals broke into the office of an angadia firm in Kashiram ni Pol at Sarangpur and escaped with Rs14.79 lakh in cash, after assaulting and stabbing one of its employees. The office also serves as a residence. Personnel from the local police station and senior officers of the crime branch rushed to the spot on learning of the robbery.

Hukmaji Prajapati, an employee of Babu Kanti Angadia Firm in Sarangpur, was stabbed by the three men who broke into the office at around 5 am on Tuesday. The intruders collected the Rs14.79 lakh from the office cupboard and escaped. Prajapati has been admitted to the VS hospital for treatment.

The police have detained four people in connection with the robbery. Sources said the police would also be interrogating people who had worked for the firm earlier but were no more in its employ.

“There are around 25 people who had worked for the angadiya firm earlier but do not work for it now. We will interrogate all of them,” joint commissioner of police, sector 1, Mohan Jha, told DNA. He further said that such a robbery is not possible without the help of a person who knows the place well.

This is the second robbery to take place at the firm’s office. When it was robbed five years back, police investigation had revealed that the robbers had received insider help.
The house has two main doors, one of which opens to the ground floor while the other leads to the first floor.

“The intruders might have gone upstairs first as the door upstairs was open. They jumped to the ground floor from the first floor after committing the robbery,” a senior crime branch official said. “We have detained four people and are interrogating them.”

The police said the robbers appear to have entered the house and gone up to the first floor, stabbed Prajapati and then forced him to give the keys of the office cupboard.

“They threatened us and asked us not to shout. We gave them the keys. They took the money from the cupboard and fled out the main entrance,” said an eyewitness who is a minor.

Police said the robbers had fled on their feet till the Panchkuva police chowki near Prem Darwaja from where they appear to have taken some vehicle. “Sniffer dogs traced them till the Panchkuva police chowky after which they lost their scent,” a police officer said.
The police inspector of Khadia police station, PG Patel, who is also the investigating officer (IO) of the case, told reporters that the police are investigating the matter.
