The reasons for Anjum Chopra’s longevity on the field are quite apparent. Getting ready for her fourth World Cup, she is as determined, focused and enthusiastic as she probably was when she played her first one in 1997.

The stylish left-handed batswoman has virtually turned out with two generations of players and seen several highs including a World Cup final appearance the last time around in South Africa, as well as a Test series win in England in which she starred with an outstanding 98-run knock.

But motivation is anything but a problem for the former skipper as she prepares for the big event to be held in Australia from March 7 to 22. “Playing in my fourth World Cup is inspiration enough for me to try and do my best,” says the 31-year-old after batting for close to two hours at the ‘nets’ with young boys of the RPCA in south Delhi.

“Personally, I am not going in with high expectations but rather just trying to focus on starting well in the tournament,” says Anjum, taking off her pads after working elaborately on the sweep shot, which she discusses at length with coaches Ajay Verma and Amrish Gautam.
