The Pune rural police seized 5,630 litres of naphtha worth Rs4.35 lakh from a house located at Jambukar Vasti in Chakan in the wee hours of Sunday and arrested a youth allegedly involved in the racket.
Following a tip-off, a local crime branch team, headed by additional superintendent of police Ashok Morale, deputy SP Shrikrishna Kokate and police inspector Bhausaheb Andhalkar, raided the house. Sachin did not have the license to store the inflammable material.
The police team seized a jeep, 11 barrels of naphtha (each with a capacity of 200 litres) and other valuables worth Rs4.35 lakh in total. Naphtha is used to adulterate petrol and diesel at petrol pumps and tankers.
