Additional sessions judge AK Aswani granted anticipatory bail to Kirpalsinh Chabda in the Naroda Patia rioting case.
Chabda had sought bail on grounds that he had been falsely implicated in the case and that his name had been mentioned six years after the incident.
The Special Investigating Team (SIT), which is probing the post-Godhra riots, had earlier filed an affidavit in the sessions court saying that Chabda had been seen instigating a mob by two witnesses, who had given their statements before the team.
According to the SIT, the witnesses had said they had seen Chabda step out of a car along with minister of women and child development, Maya Kodnani on February 28, 2002, and pointing out to her minority-community areas.
