With 154 males and 57 females turning up for the Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW) model auditions, which were held in the city recently, it can clearly be said thet the turnout was good.

Those who impressed the jurry —Vikram Phadnis, Narendra Kumar Ahmed, Krishna Mehta, Nandita Mahtani, Lubna Adams and Vikram Raizada —  had reason to rejoice, but the ones who didn't had a lesson to learn. After all, life in the model world is still a struggle as DNA found out on speaking to those who did not make the cut.

Bharat Shah, 26, from Rajasthan said, “Modelling is very difficult career. There is too much competition. As a struggler, life is not easy. I was working in Infosys but I left that job to become a model and I am still trying hard to establish myself.”

Gaelyn Mendonca, a college student, feels that since she has her studies to complete, the pressure is lot lesser on her. “My exams are due in March, so I couldn’t have devoted a lot of time to modeling at that time in any case. But yes, I want to make it big as a model and I am sure I will get many other chances. I guess I didn’t make it as the jury is looking for fresher faces and yes, the competition has increased manifold over the years,” she said.

As someone who won the Channel V Get Gorgeous 5, Iris Maity has tasted some fame and success and she really thought that she’d make it even though it’s her first time at the LFW auditions. “I don’t know where I went wrong but I am now looking at the auditions for Delhi’s Wills India Fashion Week. But I must admit that even though there are many more platforms for models today, the competition is just getting stiffer. So the struggle continues…,” she smiles.
