Prasoon Joshi’s ability to adapt and maintain a remarkable quality of writing in his lyrics has earned his immense praise in tinsel town.

So, what’s the story behind his laetst feat — Masakali? “The word Masakali doesn’t mean anything. Rahman was grooving a tune and this word came to my mind and it sounded so interesting that I penned it down. Actually it is a song of flight and of freedom and tells people to freely follow their heart rather than holding back,” says Joshi.

Since the movie is mostly based mostly in Delhi, was there anything in particular that was required with respect to writing to bring in the local flavour? “I have lived in Delhi for quite some time so I didn’t try too hard to bring in the ‘Delhiness.’ For example the words Udiyo na dariyo kar manmaani… have a very Delhi touch in terms of the pronunciations and the dialect.”

But given a choice between the two cities Joshi is quick to say, “It’s Mumbai definitely. I call it the city of karma and achievement. On the other hand Delhi is beautiful, but I really hate the fact that the people there don’t know how to respect women,” he says.

Joshi is adamant that he will never let the poet in him take over when he is writing lyrics. He says, "The lyrics of a film have to be according to the storyline. You can't do justice if you become too poetic and take off on your own trip.”
