Bravish Shetty and Kunal Mathure — both from Mumbai University — are different in nature. If Bravish is aggressive then Kunal is shy.

However, when the duo are on cricket pitch with their willow in hand they don’t bother about the bowling attack and are known for playing their natural attacking game.

The Mumbai batsmen struck a ton each to put their team on top against RSTM, Nagpur, at the Elf-Vengsarkar ground, Oval Maidan, on Thursday. The home team reached a decent target of 360-5 in the allotted 80 overs on the first day of the two-day semifinal of Rizvi College-organised Rohinton Baria Inter-University cricket tournament.
Mumbai got a good start after Chintan Shah (53) and Sujit Nayak stitched a 120-run partnership for the second wicket. However, after the duo fell, Mumbai had a tough time dealing with the situation.

But Shetty and Mathure had decided not to let the opportunity go this time and go for a big one instead of normal 50s. “We got the flak from our coach and selectors after we got out in the last match. But this time we  did not lose the chance to score. Hence we went all  out to score,” said Shetty,  an MCom student of  Khalsa College.

The duo not only earned praises but also Rs 500 from their coach Vilas Godbole. “It was a nice gesture from sir. Anyone who scores a hundred or takes five wickets sir motivates them  by gifting Rs 500,” said Mathure, who studies in HR College.

    Summarised Scores (Semis):
Oval Maidan: University of Mumbai 360-5 (Bravish Shetty 114, Kunal Mathure 100 n.o., Sujit Nayak 66, Chintan Shah 53) vs RSTM, Nagpur; Bombay Gym: Delhi Univ 65 all out (J. Kaushik 4-13) lost to SRM, Tamil Nadu 69 for 4 (K.B. Arun Karthick 32).
