Four gangsters arrested for Noida rape

Four youths, allegedly involved in several cases including rape of a girl in Noida last week, were arrested in the capital following a gun-battle in which four cops and an accused were injured, police said on Monday.

Amit Gujjar (21), the leader of the gang, Anil Kumar(22), Ved Pal (23)and Manoj Sharma (22) were caught on Sunday at Wazirabad bridge after a shootout between policemen and the criminals, deputy commissioner of Police (Crime) Neeraj Thakur
said.

The arrests came following specific information developed during investigations into another case of a transporter, Ajay, being shot dead in Greater Noida. Ajay was going to Saharanpur from Delhi when he was allegedly murdered.

Police narrowed down on Gujjar and his movements were tracked in Trans-Yamuna area as well as in Loni, Ghaziabad, Noida and Uttar Pradesh. Acting on the inputs, Thakur said, sleuths of Crime Branch laid a trap at Wazirabad bridge and around 1:30 pm the gangsters came in two cars which was asked to stop.

As the first car stopped, it was noticed that one more car came behind it with three persons sitting inside it. The cops surrounded the cars, but, suddenly the person
sitting inside the first car opened fire at police which was retaliated, Thakur said.

Meanwhile, the trio sitting inside the second car also opened fire at the police. During the cross-firing and ensuing scuffle, four policemen and a criminal suffered injuries. Thakur said all the four men were, however, apprehended. They belong to Dadri and Ghaziabad districts of UP.
