Andhra Pradesh chief minister Rajasekhara Reddy said on Sunday that the state government is reviewing the ability of Ramalinga Raju's family promoted Maytas to carry out the works awarded to it.

"I have asked the chief secretary to review all the projects in the wake of Satyam's fraud to find out their (Maytas) ability to complete the awarded projects on time, he said.

He hoped that the Rs 7,800 crore Satyam fraud will not hinder the development of infrastructure and irrigation works awarded to the company.

It was Satyam's bid to acquire Maytas that had first exposed trouble in the company.

Vouching that the irrigation works assigned to Maytas and its partners are progressing as per schedule, Reddy said as per the agreements, other consortium partners are also jointly responsible to complete the project.

He said Maytas and its joint venture partners together have been awarded Rs 13,000 crore worth of works out of Rs 38,000 crore Pranahita-Chevella lift irrigation project.

The company was already implementing irrigation projects at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore and had completed Rs 1,748 crore worth irrigation works in the state.

Maytas consortium was awarded Rs 12,000-crore Hyderabad Metro Project and Rs 1,200-crore Machilipatnam Sea Port by the state government.

Reddy said, "I have asked the chief secretary to also review the company's ability to implement the Metro and Sea Port projects.

However, he refused to comment if government is planning to withdraw the projects.

He pointed out, "The agreements specify that the other consortium partners are jointly responsible for completion of the project."

The Hyderabad Metro project is expected to announce its financial closure by March 2009, while Sea Port project will take about six months for the same.
