Musical Troupe by disabled

A Musical troupe titled 'Prathyasha Kalavedi' formed by the Prathyasha Foundation, a charitable institution formed by the differently abled people, will be inaugurated on January 24 at Kochi.

Speaking to reporters in Kochi on Monday,Simon George, chairman and Managing Trustee of the Foundation, said inauguration of the musical troupe will be held along with the proposed Prathyasha Nite, which will include music, dance and mimicry.

Awards will be distributed to ten differently abled persons who excelled in ten various fields including music, acting, sports, drawing, business, science and handicapped welfare, he said.

"We are planning to bring cricket stars Sachin Tendulkar or Sourav Ganguly or Rahul Dravid for the inauguration of the musicial troupe," he said.

The foundation's aim was to bring a new hope into the lives of disabled persons by motivating them to accept their disability positively, and training and helping them find employment, economic self-sufficiency and happiness in their lives, he said.

There are over 30 lakh differently abled people in Kerala and the number had been increasing, he said, adding given the necessary support and opportunity, many of the differently abled will be able to succeed in life.

The Foundation, which was formed in 2004, was also helping the differently abled to select their life partners in the 'pre-marital meet,' organised by it at various places, George said.

George said seven such meets had been conducted in which even normal persons willing to marry the disabled had also participated.

The foundation had also conducted the first job fair in the country for the differently abled people at Kochi during December 2007,he said report he said.

He said during Congress president Sonia Gandhi's visit to Kochi recently they submitted a memorandum seeking necessary infrastructure like ramps for the disabled at public places.

He said the state governments had not implemented the Disability Protection Act 1995, and the Foundation's aim was to see that all the governments implement the Act.

They are planning to launch their office at Chennai and Delhi in the near future, he said.
