Commuters on Western Railway will have to start their journey early to ensure that they reach their destinations on time. Reason: The decision of WR motormen to go on an indefinite hunger strike from Wednesday midnight. Doctors will be deployed at important stations during the agitation.

Over 300 motormen have decided to run the trains without food or water. Arrangements have been made to ensure that the train operations are not affected. “We are resorting to Gandhigiri for fair approach towards deciding the work schedule. The train operations will not be affected,” said a motorman.

Shyam Gupta, chief PRO, WR, said, “Their pending salary issue is being heard by regional labour commissioner who has directed them not to resort to such agitations till the next hearing on December 23.”
