SRINAGAR: At least ten Congress workers were injured as a group of youths pelted stones at a campaign cavalcade of the party in old Barzullah area of the city on Saturday, forcing securitymen to open two rounds in air to disperse the anti-poll protesters, official sources said.

Three campaign vehicles of Congress candidate for Amirakadal constituency of Srinagar district and a security van escorting them suffered extensive damage in the attack, the sources said, adding the party candidate Amreen Badr was not travelling in the vehicles at the time of the attack.

They said as soon as the campaign vehicles reached old Barzullah, a group of youths raising pro-freedom slogans started pelting stones at them injuring ten activists besides

The securitymen travelling in the escort vehicle opened two rounds in air to disperse the agitated youths, they said.
