If they crack the test, two applicants want to start their own ventures

AHMEDABAD: The fat pay packages offered to management graduates seem to be attracting even the country’s scientists. According to sources, at least three scientists from the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) will be taking the Common Admission Test (CAT) on Sunday.

CAT is believed to be one of the toughest competitive exams globally. This year, besides fresh graduates, a huge number of professionals like doctors, teachers, lawyers, and even MBAs are appearing for CAT.

The scientists are appearing for CAT primarily to test their aptitude and for the experience. But if they crack it, two of them intend to start their own information technology ventures after passing out of the IIMs.

Requesting anonymity, one of the Isro scientists told DNA that he is keen to start his own venture after nearly a decade in space research. The 30-something applicant said, “It’s not that work in space research is unsatisfactory. It is just the challenge of cracking CAT that has attracted us. It always adds value to one’s profile.”

The scientists have been training at a coaching centre in Ahmedabad for a few months now, dedicating their weekends to clear the test.

Another Isro scientist said, “I joined Isro a few years ago. Now I am keen to start a venture of my own. I plan to look into some less explored areas in the technical and design sectors.”

Talking about the motives of the scientists who will appear for the exam, the director of a CAT coaching institute said, “CAT is recognised as one of the toughest exams.

People from various sectors and backgrounds take the test just to understand where they stand. This could be the reason why the scientists are keen on taking the test.”
