After making their mark in the field of technology, IITians are now foraying into the bigger league —filmmaking.

Praveen Tyagi, an alumnus of IIT-Delhi, is all set make a film paying tribute to Satyendra Dubey, an ex-IItian and the whistleblower from Bihar, who was assassinated in 2003. This being the basic premise of the movie, it will also be the first commercial film highlighting the life of students in the premier institute.

Tyagi, who also owns a coaching class, IITian’s Pace, has roped in director Sudhir Mishra for making the film. “I was always interested in filmmaking and thought this would be the best way to immortalise Dubey. His courage is an inspiration for all IITians. I did a lot of research on him and found some very interesting facts which will be incorporated in the movie,” said Tyagi, who learnt film making from Xavier’s Institute of Communication and also assisted director Jagmohan Mundra for a short while.

“I have written the script with the help of an FTII graduate and Talvender Singh, an IIT-B student,” he added. The movie, which is also titled IIT, will be shot in the IIT-B campus during the vacation and also during their annual festival Mood Indigo. The producers plan to rope in fresh faces from talent hunts conducted during college festivals. The budget of the film is around Rs3 crore.

“The movie will revolve around a group of IITians, including Dubey, who have their share of highs and lows. It will also focus on how Dubey’s life metamorphosis after joining IIT. His fight against corruption and how his friends take revenge after his
assassination will be the highlights of the film,” said Tyagi.
