6 students injured in Sikkim school blast

GANGTOK: Six students were injured on Monday in an explosion at Lingtam Secondary School in Rongli of Sikkim's East district, about 70 km from here.     

Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) R K Sunder said that the explosion took place at about 10 am when one of the students tried to light an electrical detonator with a matchstick in the classroom.
     
Five boys and one girl, all aged 6-7, were injured, he said, adding that three of the seriously injured students - Hemant Manger, P T Tamang and Preetika Gurung - have been rushed to Central Referral Hspital at Manipal near here.
     
Rest of the students were discharged after first-aid at the local health centre, Sunder said.
     
An investigation was on to find out how the detonator reached the hands of the students, Sunder said.
