NEW DELHI: The BJP on Sunday dubbed as "another spell of rhetoric" the call by RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav for resignation of all Bihar MPs on the issue of attacks on north Indians in Mumbai.

The main opposition party also attacked the JD(U), a key NDA ally, for "triggering" a "purposeless competition" by threatening to resign from the Lok Sabha within a week on the issue and said the north Indians in Maharashtra "should be spared of the politicians and politics."

"The statement by Lalu Prasad Yadav is nothing but another spell of rhetoric," BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.

Holding the UPA governent responsible for the plight of north Indians in Maharashtra, he demanded the resignation of Yadav, who is a part of the Central government.

"The statements by Yadav and his party people are just aimed at gaining brownie points without any concerns for north Indians," Rudy charged.

On the JD(U)'s decision to quit from the Lok Sabha, he said the alliance partner had taken the step "in a huff" without consulting the BJP or any of the NDA partners.

"The decision of JD(U) has triggered a purposeless competition. This has been done without consulting the BJP or any of the NDA partners. It seems that the decision has been taken in a huff," Rudy said.

"BJP feels that the north Indians in Maharashtra should be spared of the politicians and politics," he said, adding all parties should work towards the safety and security of the society.
