NEW DELHI: A young woman student allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a Delhi Metro station in west Delhi on Sunday afternoon, officials said.

The victim, identified as Annu Sharma, who is in her early 20s, jumped onto the road after scaling the platform of Janakpuri (West) Metro station, around 20-25 feet above ground, around 3 p.m., they said.

The Metro staff and passer-bys rushed her to a private nursing home. She was discharged after primary treatment.

The officials of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), responsible for the security along the Delhi Metro network, said the woman had returned from a coaching centre in Janakpuri and was going to her home in Uttam Nagar.

“She left her bag and footwear on the platform before jumping. Her identity was established after going through the contents of her bag and her parents were informed,” a CISF official said.

No suicide note was recovered from her.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Delhi) Sharad Aggarwal said: “It seems to be a case of attempted suicide as the railing on the platforms are very high. But we are probing the matter from all possible angles.

“We will take her to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for a medical examination and would take appropriate action,” he said.

The woman's father Om Prakash told police she had slipped from the platform and didn't attempt suicide, according to CISF sources.
