GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi said on Wednesday that BJP leader L K Advani had very little knowledge about the infiltration problem.

Reacting to Advani's charge of growing infiltration in the north east region, Gogoi said here that as home minister and deputy prime minister in the NDA regime, he had "failed" in addressing the problem.

Claiming that major decisions to contain infiltration such as border fencing and upgradation of National Registrar of Citizen were taken by the UPA government, the chief minister alleged that the NDA had ignored the problem.

"Even our party opposed the reported plan of the then prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to give work permit to Bangladeshis", he said.

Taking a dig at former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta whose AGP party had alliance with the BJP, Gogoi alleged that gross human rights violations, including killing ULFA militants, was carried out with the support from the NDA government.

The chief minister alleged that Mahanta, under the direction of the BJP government, had compromised with the territorial integrity of the stae by agreeing to give free movement of NSCN cadres.

"This would have been great injustice to the people of Assam and we have stopped it", he said.

The chief minister also criticised the NDA regime on developmental issue saying that the development started only when the Congress came to power.

On the issue of separate Bodo land demanded by NDFB, Gogoi said he will oppose any move to demand a separate state but supports all round development and greater autonomy to the Bodos.

"The eleventh finance commission had done great injustice to Assam by providing meagre fund but that was changed by the 12th commission when a record amount was given after our pursuation", he said.

"Advani as a home minister had also failed to contain insurgency but after the UPA government came to power the problem has been tackled", he claimed.
