KOLKATA: With Durga Puja around the corner, restaurants here have geared up to provide mouth-watering fare to celebrate the advent of the goddess.

Some food joints have come up with special menus for the pujas while some have laid out traditional fare.

Mishra's, a restaurant chain, will have a special menu during the four days of the puja.

"For the last 18 years we are offering special menus during the pujas. That is the way we contribute to the puja spirit," Rajesh Mishra of 'Mishra's said.

Gastronomes can not only look forward to sumptuous lunch and dinner, but will also get five per cent discount on the food bill, he added.

'Bhojohari Manna', a restaurant which serves only Bengali cuisine, will serve typical Bengali fare like shukto, bhaja mugdal, alu phulkopi, rui kalia, jumbo Ilish besides deserts during the festival.

However, there are some restaurants who have decided not to change their menu during the pujas.

Nitin Shivji Kothari who runs 'Peter Cat' and 'Mocambo' on Park Street said people come to 'Mocambo' for continental food and so there is no point in changing the menu.

Similarly, people visited 'Peter Cat' mainly for Indian food. "During the puja, we will continue to offer our special dishes," Kothari said.

"During the puja days, customers will be able to have both vegetarian and non-vegetarian thalis which are priced at Rs 200 and Rs 350 respectively," he said.

'Oh! Calcutta', another upmarket restaurant has also drawn up special arrangements for the festival and will serve different menus on different puja days.

There will be a special puja buffet priced at Rs 475. From vegetable chop, bhapa murgi, shukto, kasha alur dam, prawn chingri to tilottama rui, all will be up for grabs.

Besides speciality food, the eating joints have also made special decorations and arrangements to entertain customers.

"People visiting Mishra's during the festival will be entertained with music and dhak, an inseparable part of the pujas," Mishra said.

"Those with families will be treated to full course meals," he added.

Puja specials like mutton kalia, mutton reshmi, chicken boti rarra, chicken cheese kabab, fish malai kabab will the spread out at another prominent city restaurant 'Amber'.
