MUMBAI: Reliance Communications, which is currently in the midst of a massive investment programme worth over Rs 50,000 crore, expects its capex intensity to decline significantly from next year, Chairman Anil Ambani said on Tuesday.

"Telecom is a capital intensive business. The company currently is at the peak of the capex (capital expenditure) cycle. Over the last financial year and the current one, the company has earmarked an investment spend of Rs 50,000 crore," Ambani told shareholders at the 4th annual general meeting of the company on Tuesday.

"This is a transformational phase for the company with many large scale initiatives currently at a project implementation stage. As these projects reach completion, the company will reap the rewards for many years to come in the form of strong cash flows and substantially higher stakeholder value," he said.

"Starting next year, our capex intensity is likely to decline significantly," he added.

Referring to the massive investment, Ambani said this is an investment for future. "This kind of investment is unparalleled in the history of telecom sector in India, perhaps anywhere in the world," he said.
