NEW DELHI: The Delhi police arrested Zeeshan Ahmed in connection with the September 13 serial blasts in the city. They claimed that Ahmed along with five other “terrorists” including “mastermind” of terror outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM), Atif alias Bashir, were staying in an apartment in Batla House area of Jamia Nagar, south Delhi. The police say that it was from this apartment that the group, all from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, planned the terror strikes in Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Uttar Pradesh, Jaipur and Delhi.

Ahmed, 24, is an MBA student from the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM). “He had a 79 per cent attendance record, was focused and scored 84 per cent in Commercial Law and 92 per cent in Organizational Behaviour respectively,” said Prof Arindam Chaudhuri, founder IIPM.

Meanwhile, the police’s claims about Atif, who is considered the mastermind of the Delhi attacks and who was killed in Friday’s encounter have taken people by surprise. “When he came to Delhi some months ago, I helped him rent the flat where he was killed in the encounter,” said Saquib Nisar. Atif had applied for tenant verification last month. However, cops say the Jamia Nagar police station never received the required form for this from Atif or his roommates. Moreover, photocopies of the forms recovered from Atif’s flat were forged.
