CHANDIGARH: After nearly a month of closure, food and beverages maker Pepsico on Thursday announced resumption of operations at its Punjab plant as management and workers have reached a settlement.

"We are glad to announce that we have reached an amicable solution with the workers which benefits all. The plant will resume its operations from today," said a company spokesman.

The trouble at Pepsico plant at Channo village in Sangrur district began between workers and management three months back when the company suspended some workers on charges of indiscipline and instigating the colleagues.

As per the settlement reached with the help of district administration, Pepsico decided to revoke suspension of six employees. The remaining six would be adjusted in the company within the next couple of days.

A close watch would be kept on them to ensure discipline in the company, official sources said.

However, no solution regarding the reinstatement of one of its employee, Sanjiv Kumar, who was dismissed by the company, was reached as Pepsico had categorically stated that the issue was not negotiable.

The management had suspended 12 of its employees and dismissed one after holding them responsible for "sabotaging" and "instigating" other workers causing disruption in the production.

After shutting the plant in Punjab, Pepsico had shifted production of its brand Kurkure and other products to Pune and Kolkata. The company makes Frito-Lay brand of products which includes Lay's potato chips, Lehar Kurkure and Lehar Namkeen.
