NEW DELHI: The alleged mastermind of Ahmedabad blasts, Mufti Abdul Bashr, suspected to be holding "vital information" about the Delhi terror attack, was on Thursday brought to the capital for questioning, a Delhi Police official said.

"A team of Special Cell of Delhi Police and the Gujarat Police brought Bashr to Delhi for interrogation. He has close relations with Abdul Subhan Qureshi alias Tauqir, who is said to have sent the threat email on behalf of the Indian Mujahideen," the official said.

Bashr was nabbed from Azamgarh village of Uttar Pradesh last month and b0rought to Ahmedabad in connection with the July 26 blasts in the Gujarat city that killed at least 56 people.

"Bashr holds vital information about the SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India), its modules and sleeping cells in the capital and in various parts of the country," the official said.

"He had told the Gujarat police that the Indian Mujahideen would next target Delhi," the official added.

It was Bashr who told the police about Mumbai-based software professional Abdul Subhan Qureshi alias Tauqir, now seen as the architect of the Delhi bombings that killed 24 people Sep 13.

The Indian Mujahideen - believed to be an outshoot of SIMI - claimed responsibility for the Ahmedabad and Delhi blasts. Mumbai's Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) is also looking for Taquir.

During his interrogation, Bashr also spoke about SIMI leader Kayamuddin, who belongs to Vadodara.

Investigators believe that Tauqir, Kayamuddin and their three foot-soldiers identified as Alamzeb Afridi, Mujib Sheikh and Abdul Razzak Mansuri, all residents of Ahmedabad, were in Delhi before the blasts.
