ALAPPUZHA (Kerela): A five-year-old girl, who dozed off in feverish condition, was locked up in a class room of a primary school near here by teachers who were unaware of the child's presence there.

The school authorities came to know of their mistake an hour later after the child's mother came in search of her.

According to school authorities, little Surya of the first standard was slightly feverish when she came to the class at Perunnormangalam Government LP School on Tuesday.

By the final period, she felt tired and moved to the back bench to avoid the attention of the teacher.

When the school time was over, the teacher locked the class room unaware of Surya dozing off in the back-bench.

As usual, her mother came and waited near the school gate to take her daughter home. After a while, she began panicking as she did not find the girl coming out with her friends.

When the anxious mother asked the teachers about her daughter, they said she should have gone home on her own. But they soon found out that she had not reached home.

This prompted them to search the class room, where they found the frightened girl sitting and weeping in a corner.

The parents then took her straight to a nearby hospital.

The school authorities said they did not receive any complaint from the girl's parents on the matter.
