NEW DELHI: In a gruesome reminder of the 1999 BMW hit-and-run case involving businessman Sanjeev Nanda, two youth were critically injured in the capital at around 2.30am on Thursday, when a BMW car bearing a VIP registration number rammed into their bike.

Mrigank Shrivastav, an employee with a local television channel and Anuj Singh, a BPO employee, both in their twenties, were hit by the car near Moolchand flyover in south Delhi. The victims were rushed to the trauma centre at AIIMS after an autorickshaw driver, who claimed to be an eyewitness, immediately informed the police.

“Anuj Singh was brought to the hospital in a critical state at around 3.15am. He gained his BP and heartbeat but he is extremely critical. He has suffered multiple fractures and is unable to breathe. Mrigank, however, is stable now,” said Dr Deepak Agrawal.

The police claimed that according to the eyewitness’ account, a young man, who was accompanied by a girl, was driving the BMW possibly at a speed of 140 kmph. The impact of the accident was such that most of the car’s accessories were damaged.
After the accident, the duo tried to flee but they had to abandon the car when the front wheels developed a snag.

Cops claim that the car belongs to Bahadurgarh-based industrialist NK Bhasin, who is presently in China on a business tour. Police said they were trying to get in touch with Bhasin. They have sent search teams to Sonepat and are on the lookout for the absconding duo. A case of rash and negligent driving had been registered under against them.
