NEW DELHI: State-run MTNL is installing 1.5 million 3G lines in the first phase in Delhi and Mumbai and plans to tie up with the content providers on revenue-sharing basis to enrich its high-end services.

MTNL's network should be ready in the next two months in Delhi and four months in Mumbai, MTNL officials said.

"The present capacity of mobile network for Delhi and Mumbai together is about 3.5 million. About 1.5 million of 3G Mobile capacity is being added," an official said.

The PSU is keen to make its 3G service different, not only just on superior service quality but also in terms of content. The PSU is looking for content-based services like TV-on-Mobile, entertainment, news, sports and gaming proposed to be provided to the 3G customers.

"MTNL's arrangement with content providers would be on non-exclusive and revenue-sharing basis. Content aggregators are to provide a certain category of 3G mobile-content services. The contents may be developed by the content aggregators on their own or they may have tie-ups with several other content providers to offer the array of services under that category," the official said.

Apart from standard customers, MTNL is also trying to woo corporates by offering enterprise solution for 3G applications for which it is planning to provide bulk services for big clients.

Analysts say it will be the content which would drive the growth of revenue in the 3G game.
