Organisers are contemplating shifting the venues of the tournament from Jaipur, Mohali and Delhi to Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai

MUMBAI: Will the Champions Twenty20 League matches be held in Mumbai? Likely if one goes by the hints emanating from the powers that be in the cricket board. The original venues for the football-style tournament were the northern cities of Jaipur, Mohali and New Delhi. But the change of dates seems to have forced the organisers to have a rethink on the venues as well.

It has been learnt that due to fog in the northern India in December, the organisers are contemplating shifting the matches to Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. It is not yet clear where the final will be held though but the likely venue in Mumbai could be DY
Patil Stadium as the Wankhede Stadium is under renovation. The tournament is scheduled to be held from December 3 to 10. When contacted, a top official of the league told DNA that a final decision will be taken after the finalisation of the tender process.

The League organisers, have in the meanwhile, invited tenders for the media and other rights of the tournament. The organisers have put $750 million as the base money for what they are calling as bundle rights for 10 years. A decision on the matter is expected in a few days.

Meanwhile, DNA has learnt that the Australian duo of Matthew Hayden and Mike Hussey will be available for the tournament. Australia are scheduled to take on South Africa in a Test match in Perth from December 17. A Cricket Australia official has told this paper that they have no objection with Hayden and Hussey turning up for their IPL team, in this case the Chennai Super Kings. Australia made adjustments to their FTP fixtures with New Zealand and South Africa to create window for the $ 6 million dollar eight-team tournament.

India are to take on England in their first Test in Ahmedabad from December 11 to 15. Keeping the close proximity of the Test match in mind, the Chennai team has decided to release its captain and India’s Test vice-captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni for the national duty.

VB Chandrasekhar, chief selector of the Chennai team, said it is a hypothetical situation but the Super Kings believe the national duty should get priority over club match. “Such a situation will arise if we reach the final. But if we reach the final, we will release Dhoni for the Test match,” Chandrasekhar said.
