NEW DELHI: A Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus mowed down a woman who was crossing the road in the controversial Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) Corridor in south Delhi Tuesday, police said.

The woman, who appeared to be in her early 30s and is yet to be identified, came under the front tyre of the newly launched low floor bus at around 10.15 a.m. in Ambedkar Nagar. The bus was plying on route number 423 between Khanpur and Mori Gate.

According to the police, the bus dragged her some distance before halting. She died on the spot due to grievous head injuries. Her body was taken to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for post-mortem examination.

Police said the victim's face was mutilated beyond recognition and she was not carrying any document that could have established her identity.

“After the accident, some people roughed up the bus driver Bal Kishan before handing him over to us. He was also admitted to AIIMS, where he is recuperating,” said an investigating officer.

“We have registered a case and will arrest him once he is discharged from hospital,” the official added.
