Olympic quarterfinalists from Haryana to be made DSPs

Haryana Government on Friday announced that the four Olympians from Haryana who reached quarterfinals in the Beijing Games would be appointed as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs).

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Government on Friday announced that the four Olympians from Haryana -- boxers Vijender Kumar, Jitender Kumar and Akhil Kumar and wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt -- who reached quarterfinals in the Beijing Games would be appointed as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs).
    
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said in a statement that the decision to appoint the three boxers and the wrestler as DSPs has been taken "in recognition of their significant achievements (in the Olympics)".
    
The government also announced a reward of Rs 25 lakh to boxing coach Jagdish Singh, who imparted training to the trio from the state.
    
The state government has already announced a reward of Rs 50 lakh for Vijender, who lost in the semi-final bout on Friday, and Rs 25 lakh each for Akhil Kumar, Jitender Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt besides the decision to set up an academy each for training boxers and wrestlers.
