Jharkhand criminal, 2 associates arrested

NEW DELHI: A murder convict, who was on the run for the past about three months after he escaped from custody in Jharkhand, and two of his associates were arrested in the national capital.
    
Anil Sharma (48), an alleged tender mafia don, was caught by the Special Cell of Delhi Police from Sector 10 Dwarka in south-west Delhi on Wednesday morning when he came there to meet his associates, a senior police official said.
    
The two associates who were arrested along with Sharma were identified as Kanhayia Kumar (28) and Uma Shankar Prasad Sinha (48).
    
Sharma, who has at least 45 cases including murder and extortion registered against him in Jharkhand, had on May 23 fled from custody while he was undergoing treatment at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi.
    
He was shifted to the hospital from Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi after a board of doctors recommended a series of tests suspecting that he was suffering from several ailments including cardiac problems.    

On the tenth day of his admission in the hospital, Sharma gave the policemen a slip in the wee hours of May 23. Five policemen, including a Sub-Inspector were suspended in connection with his escape.
    
He was arrested by from Noida in 1997 and since then he was in jail but allegedly managed to run his activities from inside the jail.
    
Sharma, a close relative of LJP MP Suraj Bhan, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Jharkhand court for killing Bhoma Singh inside Birsa Munda Jail in 1998. Five cases are pending trial in various courts in Jharkhand.
