BANAGLORE: The city was tense on Friday after the head and body of a pig were found in two different places of worship of a minority community.

A two-day curfew was imposed in the Munireddy Palya area where the head was found at 5.30 am, sparking instant protests from the community that considers pigs evil.
Members of the community resorted to stone-pelting, after which shop-keepers downed shutters and people rushed indoors. Three policemen, including deputy commissioner of police (north Bangalore) Syed Ulfath Hussain, were injured in the violence and a bus damaged.

Hebbal, where the body was found at around 8.30 am, was, however, peaceful.
“Some youth even threw stones at the police station in the area,” an eyewitness said.
Over 1,000 people gathered to protest the incident after filing a complaint at JC Nagar Police Station. “We had to use tear gas and cane the protesters to prevent the situation from getting out of control,” Hussain said.

Mobs were found blocking roads and holding up traffic in Munireddy Palya, JC Nagar and RT Nagar. Over 5,000 policemen have been deployed in Munireddy Palya alone.
Karnataka State Reserve Police personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas like RT Nagar, JC Nagar, KR Market, Shivaji Nagar, Russel Market and Tannery Road. Offices around MG Road, Brigade Road, Residency Road, RT Nagar, JC Road and Indira Nagar closed down as the news of the violence spread.
