Will focus on inflation and price hike in propaganda against the Union government

KOLKATA: The Left’s stance over the Indo-US nuclear deal at the national level has failed to become a priority in the West Bengal Left Front’s future propaganda plans on the failures of the UPA government.

After a meeting on Tuesday, the Left made it clear that their line of propaganda against the UPA will emphasise more on inflation and oil price hike rather than the N-deal.
After the Left meeting here on Monday morning, the Front chairman and CPI(M) state secretary in West Bengal, Biman Bose said they have chalked a detailed agitation programme for the next two months, which would highlight how the UPA and the PM overlooked and hence, miserably failed to control inflation and oil price hike.

Bose’s comment clearly indicated how the N-deal would be used only as a subsidiary point in the propaganda line to substantiate the Left’s agitation on inflation and oil price hike.

“We will talk to people about how the PM has overlooked their misery caused by inflation and rather chosen to concentrate on an issue that is detrimental to the nation’s interest,” Bose said.

When asked whether the Left in West Bengal is ready for an early election, Bose categorically said, “We will prepare for elections whenever there is one.”

Immediately after the news of the Left parties’ decision to withdraw support from the UPA government reached Kolkata, the CPI(M) also convened an emergency state secretariat meeting to decide their next line of propaganda.

The state secretariat member too gave more emphasis on the inclusion of inflation as the prime line of propaganda rather than going into the nitty-gritty of the nuclear deal, reveal sources.

Political observers feel that the CPI(M) and the Left have capitalized on the fact that the nuclear deal issue will not cut much ice among the public in general. “The CPI(M) leaders are aware that the patient hearing that they might attract from people on the issue of inflation will not even have one-tenth of its impact in case of the nuclear deal,’ observed a senior political analysts.
