HYDERABAD: A couple allegedly involved in lifting more than 100 two-wheelers was arrested by city police and their son who too was a part of the offence is at large.

Hyderabad City Commissioner of Police B Prasada Rao said on Monday that the notorious family of vehicle lifters was arrested by Nallakunta police last week.

The accused Nallimela Madhusudan Reddy, 43, his wife N Pushpa Latha, 37 and even their 14-year-old son were actively involved in this organised crime over the last two years and stole vehciles parked at different parts of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad using duplicate keys, he said.

The husband and wife later pledged these vehicles with pawn brokers and also sold them to mechanics, he said.

They were taken into custody after an alert mechanic R Rajendera Prasad informed police after growing suspicious on the duo when they approached him to dispose off one of the stolen vehciles on June 30, Prasada Rao said.

Madhusudan Reddy, a native of Karimnagar was previously arrested in 1994 on the charge of preparing foreged RC books and after releasing from jail moved to Hyderabad and started kirana business besides running an eatery.

He drew loans from private money lenders and after failing in business, resorted to stealing two-wheelers to earn easy money and sold these vehicles with fake RC books, the police official explained.

Since last year his wife and elder son resorted to vehicle lifting as Reddy fell sick, he said.

During interrogation, the husband and wife led police to the pawnbrokers and mechanics where they pledged and sold the stolen two-wheelers worth Rs 45 lakh, he said.
