The Oshiwara police are on the lookout for a Delhi-based software engineer who is allegedly involved in a credit card fraud to the tune of Rs 50 lakh. Two of his accomplices, however, were arrested on June 29.

Yogesh Mahajan, 40, a resident of Anand Vihar in New Delhi, allegedly procured credit cards data and passed it on to his friends Manish Sabarwal, 27, Umesh Chouhan, 28, who are also residents of Anand Vihar. The duo fed the data in expired credit cards using a skimmer (a device that helps capturing the details of a card swiped) and did transactions worth lakhs of rupees.

The police began investigating the case after a vigilance officer from HSBC bank’s Oshiwara branch filed a complaint of several illicit credit card transactions. The information on the fraud was revealed to them when on a tip-off they arrested Sabarwal and Chouhan near 24 Karat cinema in Jogeshwari. The duo told the police that they were sent to Mumbai by Mahajan.

Besides Mumbai, the police said, the trio operated in Delhi and Gurgaon. Sabarwal is the son of a businessman, while Chouhan’s father owns an electronic goods factory. “All the three accused worked in connivance with each other to get easy money,” said investigating officer Rajesh Padvi of Oshiwara police station.

The accused had used the forged cards for shopping in malls in New Delhi and Gurgaon. The police have recovered 20 credit cards. A police team has been sent to Delhi for further investigation. The police are also investigating whether there are more persons involved in the racket.
