JAMSHEDPUR: A Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) man on Saturday made an unsuccessful attempt to commit suicide in
the battalion headquarter at Sidgora in Jharkhand here.

Raghunath Gope, attached with the JAP-VI, consumed pesticide and was rushed to M G M Hospital, where he was
admitted to the intensive care unit, the sources said.

Gope was under suspension after he was found in a drunken state on duty in the secretariat about ten days ago, JAP
sources said.

JAP-VI commandant Suman Gupta said Gope was caught in an inebriated state on June 18 and a report in this regard was sent to the concerned higher officials for action after a medical test confirmed the presence of alcohol.

Denying that the attempted suicide incident had anything to do with his suspension, Gupta said Gope had made similar
attempts twice in the past.
