NEW DELHI: A suspended Delhi Police assistant sub-inspector, who alongwith six other colleagues allegedly extorted over Rs 19 lakh from an aide of kidney racket kingpin Amit Kumar, was on Saturday denied bail by a Delhi court.
Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau dismissed the third bail application of accused Ravinder Kumar Singh, saying, "in view of the seriousness and gravity of the allegations involved, no ground for bail is made out."
ASI Singh was arrested on February 14 following reported allegation of a kidney transplant case accused that Singh and his six colleagues had taken Rs 19.85 lakh from the driver of Dr Upender for releasing him after he was nabbed in a raid on his clinic in Gurgaon.
On June four, another accused head constable Devender Mallik, who remained elusive for over four months after registration of a case against seven Delhi police personnel, appeared before ACMM A K Kuhar, who had remanded him to 14 days judicial custody.
According to the police, Dr Upender, an aide of Dr Amit Kumar, had made a disclosure statement alleging that he had paid money to the policemen in January.
So far, besides Singh, Mallik, constables -- Rakesh Kumar and Naresh Kumar -- have also been arrested in the case.
Three accused -- head constable Vijay Bahadur and constables Kaleem Beg and Surender Rathi -- who were posted at Special Staff in Central District are still absconding.
Economic Offence Wing of Delhi Police have been booked under various sections of the IPC including 384 (extortion), 385 (putting persons in fear for extorting money), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).
